This safari will take you North from Nairobi through the central part of kenya rich with agricultural activities to Samburu Game Reserve. The land drops away to the west into the Great Rift Valley, creating a dramatic back-drop to the journey with spectacular birdwatching and views of Mt. Kenya and the lakes not leaving the big-game in Masai Mara.
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi,Topcats Safaris Representatives will meet, greet and transfer you to Norfolk Hotel which offers accommodations in 165 guest rooms and suites, a heated outdoor swimming pool, health club with gym, sauna and steam room, beauty salon, book shop and gift shops for your overnight stay as you prepare the start of your adventure.
Day 2 & 3: Samburu National Reserve
Your second day begins with briefing on you safari then travel from Nairobi through the lush farming communities of Thika and shoulders of Mt. Kenya to Northern parts of Kenya, Samburu Game Reserve located in the semi arid land characterized by rugged terrains dominated by dramatic hills with acacia and Doum palm trees along the Ewaso Nyiro River, the lifeline of this beautiful arid lands of Samburu, Buffalo Spring and Shaba National Reserve. Being home to rare species of animals like Somali Ostrich, Besia Oryx, Gerenuk, gravy zebra, Reticulated Giraffe and Greater Kudu, it makes it unique to enjoy the adventure. Other specials here are the Klipspringer, vervet monkeys, Olive Baboons, African Hare and the rare Agama Lizard on the rocks.
Your two nights stay will be at Samburu Intrepids which is a lush oasis on the banks of Ewaso Nyiro River. The camp is a delight to be in- deliciously cooled by the river breeze, the forest and sits on raised decks overlooking the brown river where elephants sometimes make an appearance or the crocodiles come out to lounge by the river banks making the relaxation worthwhile. At dawn, you will start your game drives and explore the beauty of the reserve and what it offers, with optional activities like the visit to the samburu village and learn the communities' way of life.
Day 4: Aberdare National Park
After Breakfast, we set off to Aberdare National Park which covers higher areas of Aberdare Mountain Ranges. The topography of this area is quite diverse with deep ravines that cut through the forested Eastern and Western slopes. Arrive at Outspan hotel in time for lunch. The hotel is the base for Treetop Lodge. Later you will be transferred to Treetops, an elevated Lodge offering a wildlife viewing deck overlooking the waterhole where guests watch animals from as the come to drink water. The possible animals to be found here are the rare Bongo, Giant Forest Hog, Packs of the now very rare Wild dogs and Leopard, cerval cats, Endemic bird species, reptiles, insects among others. Dinner will be served at lodge.
Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park
You will have breakfast at the lodge then transfer to the base hotel where you rejoin your guide and proceed with your safari where the land drops to the Eastern wall of the Great Rift Valley, creating a back-drop to the journey into the Lake Nakuru National Park. The park was created to protect the huge flock of over a million lesser and greater flamingos that breed and nest at edge of the lake, giving it a characteristic pink rim. The pack has got its share of other animals the Black and white rhinos, buffalo, Rothschild's Giraffe, lion, leopard, zebra, gazelles, waterbuck and the Hyrax among other small creatures.
You will spend a night at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge, set high on a plateau and offers panoramic view of the shimmering lake in the distance. The lodge has only 65 en suite bedrooms and the meals are excellent and served inside the lodge, by the swimming pool or under a forest of towering acacia trees. The Rift Valley bar is always a great watering spot and is located on the ground floor with great views of the Lake.
Day 6: Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, you will enjoy an en route game drive as you depart heading south west to Masai Mara national Reserve which strands the Serengeti National Park to its South. The reserve is absolutely breathtaking with its rolling grasslands and acacia savannah. The topography has been captured time and again with movies like 'Out of Africa' being filmed here. Game drives across this beautiful dotted plains are so rewarding due to the high concentration of animals that includes big cats, Topi, hartebeest, Oribi, Grant’s and Thomson gazelle, buffalo waterbuck , vervet monkey, olive baboon as well as many other species of reptiles and amphibians. With three days in the savannah, there will be much to discover and experience in the wild with optional activities like the visit to the Maasai cultural village and Hot air balloon rides over the plains of the Mara.
Accommodation will be at Keekorok Lodge, which means ' Abundance' in the local Maasai language. Constructed in 1962 on an eighty acre site inside the reserve, it is surrounded by an area of permanent springs and lush grassland, habitually teeming with wildlife. The stone-build bungalows with private verandas, single storey blocks and shaded tents have en suite bathrooms with constant hot showers. Every habitation has been tastefully refurbished using matching wall colorings, fabrics and linen.
Day 9: Depart to Nairobi
After breakfast, you will bid farewell to Masai Mara and start your journey back to Nairobi, with lunch on the way. Arrive at your hotel for a day room relaxation or have an optional tour of giraffe center that was founded in a bid to save the endangered Rothschild giraffe, which had lost its natural habitat. The center provide an opportunity to come close to giraffes and even feed them from your hands. Afterwards, proceed to the Carnivore Restaurant for a farewell dinner then transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international flight.
